The Zoetermeer station is the largest railway station in the Dutch city of Zoetermeer. The station is used by approximately 8,000 people daily (2006). He is a central hub in urban public transport. In the station solely regional trains.

History

The station was opened on 15 May 1973, but already completely replaced in 1992 because of the construction of the surrounding district Rokkeveen was in full swing. It was necessary that the old station had to give way to the new district and the new station between the highway was rebuilt in 12. For this, a new bridge structure over the highway had to be built. The bridge should connect the station and the two separated by the motorway parts of the city. Although Zoetermeer has more than 100,000 inhabitants, does not keep the trains running on the route intercity trains at the station. The main reason is that the station has maxed out with only two tracks its capacity, which is why an extension on three tracks is provided.
