Zoja Rudnova

Soy Nikolaevna Rudnowa (Russian Зоя Николаевна Руднова; born August 19, 1946 in Moscow, † March 12, 2014 ) was a Soviet table tennis player who belonged in the 1960s and 1970s, a world leader. She took two titles at the World Championships and ten titles at the European Championships.

Youth

Rudnowa played in the penholder style. In the European Youth Championships in 1961 she won in singles, doubles (with Sofia Belotserkowskaja ) and with the team. A year later, she defended the title with the team.

Play

Although soy Rudnowa played with the Japanese Penholderhaltung and with knobs indoor surfaces, they resembled in their way of playing rather then- Chinese men. With little - or if they do, tremendously fast-paced - topspin, but many approach -less, hard shots they preferred a very risky, uncompromising and aggressive offensive play. Her short movements that demanded little space, they also made it an ideal double player.

European Championships

From 1964 to 1976 Rudnowa participated in six European Championships. She was ten times European champion, namely in 1968 in Mixed ( with Stanislaw Gomoskow ), 1970 in all four disciplines: Singles, doubles (with Svetlana Grinberg ), Mixed ( with Stanislaw Gomoskow ) and Team 1972 in singles and mixed doubles ( with Stanislaw Gomoskow ) 1974 in mixed doubles ( with Stanislaw Gomoskow ) and with the team and in 1976 with the team. Silver she won in 1968 in singles and doubles (with Svetlana Grinberg ).

In the European ranking tournament Europe Top 12 1974 First it was. In the European ranking in 1971 she performed in second place.

World Championships

From 1963 to 1977 Rudnowa was nominated seven times for the World Championships. She was 1969 most successful when they both were in a double with Svetlana Grinberg and with the team world champion.

Private

Rudnowa studied in Moscow languages. In 1976, she worked as a journalist for Pravda, 1978, she ended her career as a competitive athlete.
