Zoltán Pokorni

Zoltán Pokorni [ Zolta ː n Pokorni ] ( born January 10, 1962 in Budapest ) is a bourgeois politician of the Hungarian Fidesz - Hungarian Civic Union and middle school teacher in Hungary.

Career as an educator

He graduated from the Hungarian language / literature and history at the Eotvos Lorand University in 1987. He was then a teacher in a Budapest Gymnasium.

In 1988 he founded the Young Educators and the Democratic Trade Union Young educators, which he headed until 1993. He actively participated in the negotiations of the National Round Table in part, and at the same time he worked as chief editor of the Journal of the union RACIO. After he had joined the party, Fidesz, he abdicated from its other functions.

Political career

Between 1994 and 1998

In 1994 he was a Member of Parliament, so he gave up his teaching post. Between 1994 and 1998 he headed the education, science, youth and Sports Commission. Between 1994 and 1997 he was deputy leader of the Fidesz parliamentary leader between 1997 and 1998.

Activity during the Orbán government

During the reign of Viktor Orbán between 1998 and 2001 he was Minister of Education. He performed an integration of universities, abolished tuition fees and introduced a bank credit system to finance the studies.

He was sent to László Kövér party chairman in 2001, so he resigned as a minister.

Between 2001 and 2002 he was deputy chairman Club.

2002, after the election defeat, he retained his position as party leader and was chairman of the parliamentary group. In addition, he was appointed Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Commission for Education and Science.

Withdrawal and Return

In July 2002, he learned that his father had done in the former People's Republic of Hungary on behalf of the Ministry of Interior conducted by the Office for National Security shading, and that's why he decided to resign from his position. He became Deputy Group Chairman again. He retired for a year, in May 2003 he became deputy chairman of the newly organized Fidesz.

He is married to a psychologist and has four sons.
