Zoltán Várkonyi

Zoltán Várkonyi ( born May 13, 1912 in Budapest, Austria - Hungary, † April 19, 1979 ) was a Hungarian film director, screenwriter, actor and professor.

Life

Várkonyi was one of the most important people of Hungarian cultural life in the 20th century. He taught from 1949 at the Budapest theater and film school ( Színművészeti Akadémia ), which he led from 1972. His students have included Sándor Pécsi, Vera Sennyei and Zoltán Latinovits. Várkonyi was actively involved in the building of the Hungarian Television. He has long worked on Vígszínház in Budapest as a theater director and director. Twice he was awarded the Kossuth Prize.
