Zone Information Protocol
Zone Information Protocol (ZIP) is a term used in computer science.
The Zone Information Protocol, or shortly ZIP, is a protocol for grouping of network nodes in an AppleTalk network. Under the name binding protocol Zone Information Protocol is used to determine the node in a network, which belong to a particular zone.
A zone is a logical grouping of network nodes which need not coincide with the physical assignment to network segments.
It is defined in RFC 1742.
The protocol is a session layer.
