Zonguldak

Zonguldak is the capital of the province on the Turkish Black Sea coast. End of December 2010 were calculated 109 081 inhabitants for exporting the coal port city.

Economy

The city's economy is based primarily on coal mining in the area, which is brought by rail to the port where they were loaded. In the approximately 60 kilometers west of Zonguldak port city Ereğli is a steel plant of Erdemir Group. Among the agricultural products of the area include strawberries. Zonguldak is the seat of Karaelmas University.

A portion of the inhabitants of this region lives abroad, many of them in the Ruhr area in Germany.

Cityscape

The business center extends along the east side of a small river which flows through the harbor to the sea. Only a small part of the built-up city area in a semicircle around the industrial port lies in the plane. The coastal road runs right near the shore. Immediately behind it rise the wooded foothills of the Pontic Mountains. The outer districts with high rise apartments growing up to the limit of what is possible on the steep slopes in the air. The development of the higher-lying residential area is carried out by many kilometers parallel to the slope streets running perpendicular to exist for pedestrian shortcuts through flights of stairs.

There are several basic hotels. The bus station is located a quarter mile west on the coast, the railway station in the valley just south of the center.

Sports

The most famous football club is called Zonguldakspor, who played in the First Turkish Football League in 1974 until 1988. The basketball team of Zonguldak is named after the steel company Erdemir and plays in the First Turkish Basketball League.
