The Greenhouse dagger worm ( Zonitoides arboreus ) is a species of snail from the subordination of terrestrial snails ( gastropod ). It originates in North America, but has now also spread to central Europe and is there mainly in or near greenhouses, which derives its name.

Features

The housing is low - conical and right wound. It measures 4.5 to 5 mm in diameter, with a height of up to 3 mm. It has 4.5 whorls tightly wound. This results in a comparatively narrow umbilicus. The body is yellowish brown and translucent; outside striped fine irregular and shiny.

Occurrence and life

The species lives in moist biotopes in the forest. In Europe, it occurs mainly in greenhouses. Meanwhile, some wild populations seem to have but established. The species feeds on wither and fresh leaves of various plants.

Dissemination

The species is native to North America. You but has been deported to Europe, Australia, Kamchatka, Japan, Iceland, Israel, Madeira, South Africa and Hawaii.
