Zruč nad Sázavou

Zruč nad Sázavou ( German Srutsch at the Sasau ) is a city in the region Středočeský kraj (Czech Republic) with 4,850 inhabitants living on an area of 1628 hectares.

Geography

Zruč is located about 30 kilometers southeast of Prague, in Želivka hill country on the Sasau. The altitude is 330 meters above sea level

History

The first written record dates back to 1334. It is believed, however, that the settlement was made in the 11th century, after the construction of the monastery in Sázava. The first known owners were the nobles and Hermann Graf von Kolowrat. 1553 buys Jiří z Kalenic Kalenic the village. Under this noble family of the place witnessed the first upswing, until it was finally raised in 1651 to the city. During the Thirty Years' War led to the disintegration and the village experienced in subsequent years a lively change of owners. 1834 began with the reconstruction of the castle. End of the 19th century comes to a new upswing and the place is connected to the road and rail network, industry, as the shoe manufacturer Bata settle here.

When the district Nesměřice the Želivka was dammed in the 1970s. The dam Švihov serves the potable water supply of Greater Prague.

The city Zruč nad Sázavou consists of the districts Domahoř ( Domhorsch ), Dubina ( Oak Village ), Zelivec ( Kleinseelau ) Nesměřice ( Nesmeritz ) and Zruč nad Sázavou ( Srutsch ) and the local situation Nová Zruč ( New Srutsch ).
