Zsolt Gárdonyi

Zsolt Gárdonyi [ ʒolt ɡa rdoɲi ː ] ( born March 21, 1946 in Budapest ) is a hungary German composer and organist, son of composer and musicologist Zoltán Gárdonyi ( 1906-1986 ).

Life

Zsolt Gárdonyi studied composition, organ, theory of music and church music. At age 19, he was the winner of the college competition Budapest both for organ and in composition. At 24, he became a full-time A church musician at the church Alexander in Wildeshausen ( Lower Saxony) and with 34 years professor of music theory at the Hochschule für Musik in Würzburg.

Gárdonyi occurs through active international career out as an organist. He also gives guest lectures and masterclasses at several European and American universities and working on radio and CD productions at home and abroad. From him are a variety of music-theoretical publications.

His main research interests are:

  • The harmony of the 19th and 20th centuries ( among others by Liszt, Debussy, Scriabin and Messiaen )
  • The relationships between composition, interpretation, analysis and improvisation.

Zsolt Gárdonyi received in 2000 an honorary doctorate from the Reformed Theological University of Debrecen for his church musical work; In 2011 he was awarded the Medal of Merit by the President of the Republic of Hungary.
