Zubair Group

The Zubair archipelago (Arabic جزر الزبير, DMG Ǧuzur az- Zubair ) is about fifty kilometers from the west coast of Yemen island group in the Red Sea. It belongs to the local mid-ocean ridges.

The archipelago consists of ten islands, including:

  • Peak Centre
  • Haycock
  • Jebel Zubair - The largest island of the archipelago, has a length of five kilometers.
  • Rugged
  • Saba
  • Saddle
  • An as yet unnamed, about five hundred to a thousand meters wide island, which rises at least since December 23, 2011 from the sea. The eruptions that led to the emergence of the island had begun on December 19.

The islands are chimneys of a shield volcano in the Red Sea Rift, whose highest elevation is 191 meters and its last eruption in 1824, dated ( according to other sources 1846).
