Zubin Mehta

Zubin Mehta ( born April 29, 1936 in Bombay (now Mumbai) ) is an Indian conductor who comes from the ethnicity of parsing. The versatile and international artists grew up in a Zoroastrian family of musicians in Central India.

His father Mehli Mehta was a prominent concert violinists, violin teacher and conductor who founded the Bombay Symphony Orchestra and a string quartet.

Life

Mehta, the elder of two sons of a wealthy family, was awarded the first violins and piano lessons at the age of seven years and was familiar with the early European classical music. He visited during the first through fifth year (1942-1946) the private " Campion School " Bombay under the direction of Jesuit priests. His only sporting interest was cricket. In 1947 Zubin joined the St. Mary's High School in Mumbai, where he spent four years later obtained his baccalaureate degree. Mehta is married to actress Nancy Kovack since July 19, 1969. From his first marriage with Carmen Lasky two grown children come. His son Mervon Mehta is vice president of the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.
