Zubizuri

The pedestrian bridge in Bilbao Zubizuri is one of the attractions of the city dar. Its name comes from the Basque language and means White Bridge.

History

It was built in 1994-1997 after a design by the Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava in the Basque city of Bilbao. It spans the ( Ría del ) Nervión, also called Ría de Bilbao, and connects the two parts of the city Campo volantin and ' Uribitarte together. The curved bridge is supported by a bow and is also known as Puente del Campo Volantín, as the bridge of the field of Volantín.

Meanwhile, the glass floor of the bridge was covered with a carpet of plastic. A less beautiful but practical solution to the problem because the glass floor and stainless steel strips that border the glass panels were very slippery when wet.
