Zudar

The Zudar is the island of Rügen belonging, heavily indented, about 18 km ² peninsula.

Location

The peninsula lies between the Schoritzer Wiek, the rügischen Bodden ( the northern part of the Bay of Greifswald ) and the southwest entrance of the Strelasund.

At its narrowest point, the peninsula is 900 meters wide, and to the east of the peninsula is located, with a height of 25 m above sea level. NN, its highest point. On the Zudar is the southernmost point of Rügen, of Palmer.

History

Until 12 June 2004 which is situated on the peninsula community Zudar was independent before it was incorporated into the city Garz. This is therefore also apply to the former Zudarer districts Freudenberg, Fossberg, Glewitz, Grabow, Losentitz, Maltzien, Poppelvitz and Zicker.

In 1854, Max Hofmeier, the gynecologist and later Rector of the University of Würzburg, was born on the Zudar.

Traffic

The Glewitzer Ferry - second most important connection between Rügen and the mainland to the fixed Strelasundquerung - runs between Stahlbrode and the Zudar.
