Zudausques
Zudausques is a commune with 842 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Pas -de- Calais, in the Nord -Pas -de -Calais. It belongs to the arrondissement of Saint- Omer, in the canton of Lumbres and community association Pays de Lumbres.

Geography
The municipality is located on the southwestern edge Zudausques French Flanders in the far north of France, about 30 kilometers southeast of Calais and thus in the immediate hinterland of the Channel coast. The flat area of the municipality has a slight slope from southwest to northeast on ( 128 m above sea level is in the southwest corner of the municipality 's highest point reached). The plateau-like terrain is interrupted by up to 50 m deep Langen dry valleys, which run out to the northeast. Characteristic of the 7.24 km ² large municipality area is the lack of any flowing or standing water, which is at the porous limestone substrate. A thin layer of clay provides a degree of good agricultural yields. The seeped rainwater comes northeast of Zudausques light again and opens into the swampy lowlands of the Aa. The completely treeless landscape is dominated by fields and meadows, whose boundaries are often marked by hedges. The municipal area of Zudausques is part of the Regional Natural Park Caps Marais et d'Opale ( Parc naturel régional des Caps et Marais d' Opale ).
In addition to the loosened settlement pattern of the village core are in the municipality of Zudausques the villages and hamlets Adsoit, Audenthun, Cormette, Leuline, Liheuse and Noircarme.

History
In the year 850 the town first appears in written sources, as Elciaco. After many changes of notation in the following centuries, today's spelling Zudausques is established only since 1820. The prefix Zud comes as allot and Zuyt from the West-Flemish and represents South. The counterpart to Zudausques is twelve kilometers northwest municipality located Nordausques.
The residents were subjects of the lords of Noircarme, whose existence still remembers an eponymous district in the 9th and 10th centuries. One of the descendants of this dynasty - Alexander Louis Theodore Hypolite of Noircarme - 1825 was the founder of the glass and crystal manufacturer in the nearby Arques. Some fief in the village belonged to other families, including the lords of Dausque or D' Ausque included, which was crucial in the development of the place name. The village Zudausques was close to the Roman road " Leulène " of Therouanne after Sangatte on the English Channel. In the district of the district Longueborne Leuline today still shows a Leugenstein of the importance of this road. The heyday of the Leulène was between the 10th and 12th century as part of the Via Francigena and pilgrimage from Canterbury to Rome. After the decline of the port of Calais, Sangatte in favor of the road was laid.
In the district Liheuse the ruins of a German V1 Launcher from 1944 are preserved.
By Royal Decree of 17 April 1822 Kirchdorf Cormette was incorporated into Zudausques.

Economy and infrastructure
Agriculture continues to play an important role in Zudausques ( grain farming, dairy farming ) with nine companies. There are also smaller service companies including several restaurants.
Transport links
The Autoroute A26 ( Troyes Reims - Calais) touches the south of the municipality of Zudausques (the next driveway possibility is close Wisques ). From Zudausques more road links lead to Boisdinghem, Moringhem, Leulinghem, Quelmes and Saint- Omer. The railway junction Saint- Omer is about ten kilometers from Zudausques.
