Zug Castle

The castle is a castle train in the same city train in the Canton train ( Switzerland ). It is located in the modern town of train and thus lies within the second city wall.

History

The origins of the castle date back to the 11th century. At that time, nor settlement called train, an older system of wood was replaced by a circular wall of stone, which was destroyed in the 12th century. During the reconstruction of the still existing tower and a new fortification were built.

The train yard in the 11th century was built by ministerial of the counts of Lenzburg. In the 13th century the yard ( Curtis) came to the Counts of Kyburg, founders of the city train, which tags him to a castle with the tower still exists today. After the extinction of Kyburgs succeeded the Count of Hapsburg in 1273 to bring all the rights of the castle itself. After joining the train of the Swiss Confederation in 1352, the castle passed into private ownership and was used in the following centuries Zug families as a representative residence. 1555 built one of these owners, John Zurlauben, the still visible today Riegelbau on the former defensive wall.

Since extensive restoration from 1979 to 1982, the castle serves as a museum of cultural history of the city and canton train.
