Zunfthaus zur Haue

The guild house to pick the Limmat Quay is the meeting house ( guild house ) of the guild to Kämbel and one of the most historically important buildings in the district town hall in Zurich.

History

The first drinking room of the guild to Kämbel was located near the town hall, but can not be more like other guilds clearly elicit the city of Zurich. What is certain is that the guild has acquired the Muensterhof in 1487 the " House for Kämbel ".

Originally stood at the site of the present town house " to pick " three separate houses: the upper and lower " Wetzwilerhus ", 1373 first mentioned, and the " Ropoltzhus "; All three houses were rebuilt in later years into one building complex. 1358 sold the knight Götz Mülner his conferred by Emperor Ludwig of Bavaria as an imperial fief sovereign rights to the city of Zurich. 1532 acquired the draper Konrad Rollenbutz the property and gave it to his two sons on. Since the second half of the 16th century there was the " pick " owned by Salomon Hirzel - Rollenbutz ( 1544-1605 ), of his son, the mayor Salomon inherited Hirzel ( 1580-1652 ) the house. On the Murerplan 1576 the house left the guild house can be seen for males. Under the arcades of the Reichsstrasse the Limmat went along.

1781 the house was sold by the family of Rudolf Hirzel Rordorf - Sprüngli in whose possession it remained until it was bought by the grocer August Beckert in 1878. This let to rebuild the house, on the façade Stuckgesimsen and painted ornaments and change the Gothic windows of the upper floors. His nephew, Albert Beckert Irniger, induced the production of the original CSR in today's appearance with the distinctive stepped gables.

On May 31, 1956-150 years after its dissolution - acquired the newly established company for Kämbel the property. The guild hall on the first floor was designed in 1979 by architect Armin Meili; Since 1980, a wine bar is on the ground floor.
