Zuse Institute Berlin

The Konrad -Zuse- Centre for Information Technology Berlin (ZIB or too short, Zuse Institute Berlin ) is a research institute in Berlin. The CIA was posted on July 17, 1984 by Law on the Centre for Information Technology ( ZInfG ) by the State of Berlin founded as a public institution and has its headquarters in Berlin- Dahlem on the campus of the Freie Universität Berlin. Patron is Konrad Zuse, the inventor of the first freely programmable computer.

Tasks

Mission of the CIA is to conduct research and development in the field of information technology. This results mainly focuses in the areas of applied mathematics and computer science, which will be implemented in close cooperation with the Berlin universities and other scientific institutions. In addition, the Zuse Institute also acts as a service provider by providing the capacity of its high-performance computers for other facilities.

The CIA is the seat of the office of the Berlin Research Network BRAIN.

HLRN

Together with the Leibniz University IT Services ( LUIS ) at the Leibniz University Hannover operates the Konrad -Zuse -Zentrum since the beginning of 2014 the HLRN III, a geographically distributed high-performance computers. When completed In 2008 we introduced HLRN - II were at both locations together about 25,000 processor cores with 92 terabytes of RAM and a total processing power of 312 petaflop / s are available. In this stage the HLRN -II was in the list of 500 fastest computers out in the squares 108 and 109 (as of November 2011). The computing power is used for research, particularly the north German universities and their excellence initiatives.
