Žuta Lokva

Žuta Lokva is a town in the Lika- Senj, Croatia with 37 inhabitants. The area is part of the greater community Brinje. On the German place name meaning: Yellow pond.

Geography

Žuta Lokva located north of the agrarian Lika, in the southwestern part of the district Brinje. The municipality borders the villages Melnice, Rapain Klanac Prokike and Vrzići.

History

Since ancient times the city was an important transport hub, the (also known as Josephine Street later) of Karlovac joined the continental hinterland through a salt road over Josipdol with Senj on the coast. Since 1780 there existed beyond a postal service, which resulted in Gospic to the headquarters of the regiment Likaner.
