Zvi Elpeleg

Zvi Elpeleg ( born 1926 in Poland) is an Israeli Arabist.

Elpeleg was born in 1926 in Poland. When he was eight years old his family emigrated to the British Mandate of Palestine. Elpeleg now grew up in Jaffa and later studied Arabic in Tel Aviv with a focus on the history of Palestine.

During his service in the IDF, he was a total of five military governor. Elpeleg was a member of the Central Committee of the Avodah and belonged to the Israeli delegation to the Israeli-Palestinian peace talks to. Since 1972 he works as a senior researcher at the Moshe Dayan Center at Tel Aviv University. This activity he interrupted in 1995 when he was for two years ambassador to Turkey.
