Zwan

Zwan was a project founded in 2001 by The Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan in which it is listed under the pseudonym Billy Burke. The band was resolved but after only one album and a tour again.

Band History

Zwan was formed in 2001 by merging the former Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan (vocals, guitar ), and Jimmy Chamberlin (drums), with the former Skung and Chavez - member Matt Sweeney and David Pajo (guitar / bass, former member of Tortoise ). Paz Lenchantin (bass, formerly A Perfect Circle ) was included as an additional member of the band in April 2002.

The plan, however, such a project was for a long time, Billy Corgan and Matt Sweeney already knew but since the work on the debut album by the Smashing Pumpkins, " Gish ". A year after the dissolution of Pumpkins Zwan began in late 2001 under the name The True Poets of Zwan and The Djali Zwan with a tour of small clubs in the region around Los Angeles and San Diego. During this tour Zwan occurred on 4 stages at around 500 each audience and played from a repertoire of more than 40 songs before, which should grow to an impressive 91 songs by the end of the band that were never published mostly in studio versions. The response was very positive, but also due to the fact that the majority homed on the intimate arranged Zwankonzerten fans of Smashing Pumpkins.

Finally, the work began on the debut, which was released in 2003, and the subsequent tour. The beginning of 2003 announced by Corgan project Zwan split on the CD releases in two parallel bands, namely the True Poets of Zwan with electronically amplified music, and in The Djali Zwan with purely acoustic music (but the identical line-up ) was finally no longer implemented. On 13 June 2003 they say from the remaining shows of the tour shortly before her last live performance before an audience at Nuke Festival in Austria. The end of August are Paz Lenchantin its withdrawal known less than a month later, the band Zwan exists only in the minds of their fans.

In addition to the album Mary Star of the Sea and single releases of songs and Lyric Zwan Honestly contributions to the soundtrack of the film Spun have supplied, which has not previously been released on CD. On this soundtrack is, inter alia, also The Number of the Beast ( originally by Iron Maiden ) listen to what is found on the Single to Honestly as a B-side.

Zwan remembers primarily through the incisive voice of singer Billy Corgan very strongly to the Smashing Pumpkins, but can not be regarded as a direct continuation with these. Corgan always stressed the independence of Zwan and this ultimately made musically significantly. Correspondingly diverse influences Zwan was also supported by the diverse backgrounds of the musicians. Accordingly, the sounds of the debut album did not act consistently gloomy even cheerful to euphoric as on some albums of the Pumpkins, but on the contrary. Even in the lyrics of each song can be significant differences to the Pumpkins notice. Live, the band is recorded mainly by long, almost progressive jam sessions of the three guitarists.
