Zwardoń

Zwardoń is a village in the municipality Rajcza powiat in Żywiec in Silesia and is situated in the southeastern part of the county.

Geographical location

Zwardoń lies in the Saybuscher Beskids, a mountain range in the outer Western Carpathians, south of the town of Zywiec, on the border with Slovakia.

In the mountains around the village heights are several sources that form the Czarna Soła, which is one of the main tributaries of the Soła, which flows into the Vistula.

In the surroundings of the place are 15 ski lifts.

History

It is estimated that in the 17th century a settlement was established on the trade route around the customs post at the Polish- Hungarian border. The oldest part of the village is Myto. Myto initially belonged to Sól, but was with time independent. The village Zwardoń can be found since the 18th century on the maps. On November 3, 1884, the Rail road Żywiec Čadca (SK) and on 1 June 1894, the first post office was opened. In 1894 the first school was established in the beginning. Than branch school in Sól, since September 1, 1903 as an independent elementary school Zwardoń counted 1889 124 inhabitants in the year. After the First World War, the town developed into a famous ski resort. Around the 1930s, a mountain chalet and a ski jump in Zwardoń were built. Several Polish families were expelled in 1940 under the Saybusch action.

Traffic

By location of the railway from Vienna via Žilina (SK) and Zwardoń (PL / SK) runs up to Katowice. The most important road is the S69 expressway that runs from Zwardoń (PL / SK) on Żywiec to Bielsko - Biala.
