Zygmunt Hübner

Zygmunt Hübner ( born March 23, 1930 in Warsaw, † January 12, 1989 ) was a Polish theater director and theater manager.

Hübner finished an acting training at the State Drama School PWST Warsaw, where he graduated in 1952 with a diploma. In 1953 he made ​​his debut as an actor at the Polish National Theater in Warsaw. After studying acting, he also studied at the Warsaw PWST theater directing. He finished his studies in 1956. His directorial debut was in 1955 at the Teatr Współczesny in Warsaw. In 1958 he became artistic director of Teatr Wybrzeze in Gdansk. He remained director of the theater until 1962. Under his leadership gave the film director Andrzej Wajda at this stage his theater directorial debut. In 1962 he moved to the Teatr Współczesny Wrocław and 1963 he became director of the Teatr Stary in Krakow. In 1970 he resigned as director of the theater, after the Socialist rulers forced him to take two pieces of Ernest Bryll and Helmut Kajzar from the repertoire. He then worked as a freelance director at different stages Polish and went to Warsaw in 1974 to the Common Theatre where he was artistic director in 1977 and remained there until his death in 1989.

Zygmunt Hübner one of the outstanding theater artists of the postwar Polish history.
