Zygmunt Krasiński

Count Zygmunt Krasinski ( born February 19, 1812 in Paris, † February 23, 1859 ) was a Polish poet and playwright.

Life and work

Krasinski was the son of a Polish magnate family. He studied law in Warsaw and later in Geneva, where he met Adam Mickiewicz. However, he was mainly concerned with literature and European philosophy. The biggest influence on his world view and way of life his father, Wincenty Krasinski, who was a general under Napoléon Bonaparte and later after the defeat of Napoleon General of the Russian Tsar. He never could resist the influence of the Father, even the forcing him into marriage with Eliza Branicka, though he was in love with Delfina Potocka. His studies he did not finish, after his father forbade him the anti-Russian demonstrations for a democratic Poland.

First literary works were produced during his studies in Warsaw. Success but became apparent in 1835, by the Un - Divine Comedy. He scored alongside Adam Mickiewicz and Juliusz Słowacki to the three major visionaries of Polish literature and to the great representatives of European Romanticism.
