Zygomaticus major muscle

The musculus zygomaticus ( " zygomatic muscle ") is a skin muscle of the head in mammals. The muscle is part of the facial muscles and pulls the corners of the mouth up and back, which is why he is regarded as one of the " funny bone ". The muscle arises from the zygomatic arch and radiates into the mouth.

In humans, the muscle is divided into two parts: the musculus zygomaticus major ( " great zygomatic muscle ") is the larger of the two, the musculus zygomaticus minor ( " small zygomatic muscle " ) moves to the upper lip.
