Zyryanka, Sakha Republic

Syrjanka (Russian Зырянка ) is an urban-type settlement in the Republic of Sakha ( Yakutia) in Russia with 3170 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The place is over 1100 km as the crow east-northeast of the capital of Republic of Yakutsk in the Kolyma lowland. It is located on the left bank of the Kolyma directly at the confluence of the Jassatschnaja and a good 10 km above the mouth of the eponymous river Syrjanka.

Syrjanka is the administrative center of Ulus Werchnekolymski. The settlement is the seat and only town in the municipality ( gorodskoje posselenije ) Possjolok Syrjanka.

History

1647 was the village Werchnekolymsk, well 3 km southwest of present-day Syrjanka by Cossacks under Dmitri Syrjan a winter camp, later Ostrog built.

In the 1930s, started west on the river Syrjanka with the development of coal resources already described in 1891 by Ivan Tscherski 40-60 km. In this context, 1937 was built around the coal loading point on the Kolyma, the settlement Syrjanka how the river named after the founder of Werchnekolymsk. In the settlement, the management of SyrjanLag was in the system of the Gulag prison camp.

Traffic

Syrjanka is not connected to the fixed line network. Road connection to the coal deposits located 60 km west of the Syrjanka, past the small airport of the place ( ICAO code UESU ), just 10 km away from the resort. In the ice-free period is boat service on the Kolyma; in the winter ice road on the river is established, can be reached via the Syrjanka from the neighboring Magadan Oblast, as are the nearby places kolymaabwärts Srednekolymsk and Tscherski.
