1938–39 Gauliga Ostmark

The football championship in annexed Austria 1938/39, was hosted by the National Socialist Reich Federation for Physical Education and disputed by its members. As substructure for Gauliga XVII several district classes of NSRL served.

Gauliga XVII

General

The championship in the National League was contested by 10 teams, who met during the entire game each year twice. Austrian / Ostmärkischer football champion was the Vienna Admira, who won their seventh league title and thus became eligible to participate in the German championship in 1939. With the amateurs Steyr and Wacker Wiener Neustadt, the last two teams in the table had to dismount in the area classes.

German Championship 1939

General

As a master of Gauliga XVII Admira was able to attend the finals of the German Cup. The Jedleseer sat in Group 3 as the winner through and thus qualified for the semifinals, where they beat Hamburger SV. So the club reached the final against Schalke 04, a few days before the match were Admira team supports Peter Platzer and Toni sound recalled to a selection game against Silesia from NSRL, from which both came back badly injured.

Thus, the Admiralty was left without goalie and had to "train " a young recruit for the final game with a bookbinder. The association was thus quasi goalie and stand a chance in the final, which developed under the direction of Dresden Schulz referee scandal game: The Admira finished the final with only seven field players, the game ended 0:9. After Szepan ridiculed the Admiralty, he was struck down by Fritz Klacl with an uppercut, which took a lifetime ban.

General

The district classes presented the uniform second stage game this season dar. There was the leagues Vienna A, B Vienna, West (Upper Danube and Salzburg), East ( Lower Danube ) and South (Styria and Carinthia ). The master of the latter three district classes participated directly in the Relagtion to Gauliga XVII, the two winners of the Vienna district classes completed a pre-qualification.
