1952–53 DDR-Oberliga

The season 1952/53, was the fourth edition of the DDR - Oberliga. Master was the SG Dynamo Dresden, in the playoff for the championship ( after the point equality was necessary ) with 3:2 prevailed against the BSG bismuth floodplain. The season began on September 21, 1952 and ended on 16 June 1953.

Preseason

After the league had grown since its establishment within two years from 14 to 19 teams, it was scaled for the first time for the season 1952/53. The four losers were the preseason with Empor Lauter and Motor Jena, compared with two climbers, bringing the league started with 17 teams.

Name Changes

As the season progresses, the SG People's Police in Dresden have been SG Dynamo Dresden and renamed the SV forward HVA Leipzig in Leipzig and SV forward KVP after moving to Berlin in SV forward CIP Berlin.

Course of the season

First, the battle for the championship between bismuth Aue and locomotive Stendal took place after the first round accordingly occupied the first two places. However Stendal could not continue to hold its shape and was used as second-worst round team back in the end only eleventh. The other way round, it ran at the Cup Winners' Cup the previous year SG VP Dresden, now Dynamo Dresden was named after the annexation to the newly created sports club Dynamo. After a weak first round ( one was only eighth ) joined Dynamo in the second half to bismuth on, which led to a point of equality and a play for the championship at the end. Last year's champions Turbine Hall, however, had nothing to do with the championship and was able to escape only on the last day in front of relegation. The losers were the previous Movers Motor Jena and motor Oberschoeneweide, bismuth Gera and two years ago, only with political power superior to the Oberliga SV forward Leipzig. The descent of the Leipzig could not be prevented by the delegation of many players of Chemie Leipzig to forward. The then in Leipzig extremely unpopular team has therefore been resettled before the end of season to Berlin to refounded as SV forward CIP Berlin.

With the descent of Oberschoeneweide and forward the league for the following season was once again without a team from East Berlin.

Goals

The gates 885 achieved an average yield of 3.25 per game. There were 15 own goals. The rotation highest victories achieved Dresden ( 9:2 against bismuth Gera ) and motor Dessau (8:1 against rotation Babelsberg ).

Audience

A total of 3.499 million viewers watched the 272 league games, which gives an average of 12,864 spectators per game. So that a new league record was set. With 40,000 spectators, the encounter of the 27th game day Dynamo Dresden was - bismuth Aue best visited.

Fdgb Cup

The fdgb Cup was canceled this season. After the first main round was only on June 7, 1953, nine days before the end of the league season, played the second main round was officially postponed due to the summer holidays. Unofficially, was the popular uprising of 17 June 1953, the real reason for the suspension. The competition was then continued during the following season.
