1956–57 Austrian football championship
The Austrian Football Championship 1956/57, was hosted by the Austrian Football Association - State League. As substructure for League A was also the professionally run league B, but in which only played teams from Vienna, Lower Austria, Burgenland, Upper Austria and Styria. For the clubs from western Austria, in which there was still not a professional operation, the Tauern League North (Salzburg), the Tauern League South (Carinthia ) and the League Arlberg (Tyrol, Vorarlberg, Austria) were aligned on amateur basis. As the third power level acted the appropriate local leagues in the state associations.
League A
In the championship season 1956/57, it looked for a long time after the seventh title for the Vienna, but in a famous comeback Rapid could come in the spring point to point of the table top closer. Expulsion
The two climb places in the season 1956/57, were on the one hand awarded to the champion of the B- League, the second in a relegation round played. The Arlberg master black and white Bregenz first played against the Tauern League South champion WSG Radenthein to qualify for the relegation play for the league A. The WSG Radenthein was allowed to begin, as the Tauern Northern League champions SK Bischofshofen against the runner-up of the Tauern League South Wolfberger AC had previously lost with a total score of 4:6. The Vorarlberg able to prevail against the Carinthian almost. However, the Bregenz defeated in the playoff for promotion for the league against the second-placed the B league, FC Vienna.
