History, results and tables

It was the two- point rule; case of a tie, the goal difference was the decisive factor for the placement. At this season the French Football Federation had generally allowed by a player per team the exchange without the need for an injury had to be present.

In defending Saint- Étienne there had been a coaching change, but no adverse effects moved to, because the outgoing Jean Snella and detaching him Albert Batteux pursued a very similar concept. There were also selective reinforcements of the first team, in particular, the arrival of a young attacker from Mali made headlines at the end of 1967: Salif Keita came on their own initiative by taxi from Le Bourget airport to the Stade Geoffroy- Guichard and got there after a training session a contract. In 18 league matches he scored twelve goals for ASSE. The battle for the championship was energized, because the "Green " from Saint- Étienne sat away from the start of the table top. For the first time on the eleventh Gameday they had, against Angers, suffered a defeat, another against Paris - Sedan was followed two weeks later. Still never got the first place in danger, and at the end expressed her " colossal superiority " in a record margin of eleven points to runner-up from Nice. The best forward and the best defense in the league had also already secured the middle of May the National Cup and hence the Doublé; for trainers Batteux this was even already the second " double profit " after ten years, who was then succeeded him with Stade Reims.

The 1967/68 season saw with Ajaccio for the first time in league history a Corsican team in Division 1, the same one should be more to come after the season with the SEC Bastia. Also a - albeit " with sport ethical point of barely compliant " - Premiere presented the license purchase by Red Star Saint- Ouen dar. the more the way of the "Red Devils " from Rouen was rated positive, the end of the table during the entire Hinserie along with newcomer Aix had adorned. Then they added in early 1968 Saint -Étienne at one of the only five defeats and information gathered in the last third of the season just as many points as the master, which allowed them to avoid relegation, although the league was again reduced to 18 participants for the following season. From the Division 2 went next to Bastia Nîmes Olympique in the top flight back, and also Strasbourg took the Barrages for Liga whereabouts.

The French football had not remained untouched by the political and social events of Paris in May '68. First weekend to May 22 fell a complete matchday due to a players strike; those organized by the UNFP Player of union action was directed against the " lifetime contract " until his 35th birthday tied a professional at his first club. In addition, representatives of amateur clubs occupied the office of the Fédération Française de Football under the slogan "Football footballers! " For five days and sat among other things, a statutory contribution of assets in decisions by association; their first elected representatives were Raymond Kopa and Michel Hidalgo. The 38th Round could therefore be discharged until the beginning of July.
