Course of the season

Again, the first three ranks among the teams from Magdeburg, Jena and Dresden were identified. The rankings of these three matched this time exactly the preseason, so Magdeburg defended his championship titles (most recently managed this Vorwärts Berlin 1966), Jena for the third consecutive runner-up was and Dresden at least in the international competition came in third place. The championship was decided in the penultimate round in a direct duel between Magdeburg and Jena in the sold-out Ernst-Grube -Stadion, as they parted both 1:1 draw. Fourth went to BFC Dynamo, who was on the threshold of his successful era ( until 1991 the team was back worse than fourth place ).

Exciting was the decision for the second relegated. Forward Stralsund stood at practically 23 Round relegated firmly. For the Army football player, it was the last game in the premier league. Prior to lay Hansa Rostock and bismuth floodplain. On the penultimate day the two met each other in Rostock Hansa and pushed his way through a 4-0 victory in front of bismuth on the non- relegation zone. Accordingly Rostock on the final day was the favorites, especially since you yourself competing against the other relegated Stralsund, while Aue played against Erfurt. But since Erfurt lost in Aue and Stralsund a 1-1 won rose for the second time from Rostock from the league.

For a positive surprise was Stahl Riesa. The promoted from 1973 finished sixth and thus the best placement of its league affiliation.

For the referee Robert Pischke a penalty whistle is fatal. In Dresden game against the BFC on Matchday ( both teams were poor start to the season) he gave shortly before the end a penalty for Dresden. Dresden won the match 3-2 and Pitschke was never scheduled again to play the league.
