1977–78 2. Bundesliga

The 2nd Bundesliga 1977/78 was played in two seasons with 20 clubs. The two relay champions Arminia Bielefeld (Season North) and SV Darmstadt 98 (Season South) rose directly on to the 1st Bundesliga. The third promoted to 1st FC Nuremberg sat in the relegation through against Rot -Weiss Essen and followed as the third climber to the top flight.

From the 1st Bundesliga rose TSV 1860 Munich 1 FC Saarbrücken ( in the South squadron ) and the FC St. Pauli ( in the Season North ) off and played the following season in the second division.

Arminia Bielefeld secured in the season 1977/78 the 2nd Bundesliga Nord the championship title with the narrow margin of one point against Rot-Weiss Essen. This meant six years after the demotion within the Bundesliga scandal to return to the top flight. Rot-Weiss Essen failed in the relegation to the 1st FC Nuremberg, the Second 2nd Bundesliga South. Thus, the direct re-emergence had been missed after relegation from the Bundesliga 1. The second relegated team, Tennis Borussia Berlin, finished the season as tables Tenth without opportunities for advancement.

With black and white eating a founding member of the 2nd Bundesliga rose after four years in the Oberliga Nordrhein. Other losers were the two previous climbers 1 FC Bocholt and OSC Bremerhaven, and SC Herford.

The season 1977/78 the 2nd Bundesliga South ended with the sovereign initial rise of SV Darmstadt 98 in the 1st Bundesliga. 1 FC Nuremberg, then still the German record champions, managed as a table runner also the rise after prevailed in the relegation games against North Second Rot-Weiss Essen 1-0 and 2-2.
