Background

For the eleventh World Championship race at the Hockenheimring, the permanently replaced the no longer appropriate for security aspects for the Formula 1 Nürburgring Nordschleife from this year as the venue for the German Grand Prix, met again a strong field of participants, whose 30 pilots of a 24 starting places trying to qualify. The unusually high number of small private teams who had a pre-qualification made ​​two weeks earlier at the Grand Prix of Great Britain was required, but not attained.

The Renault team decided after the unfortunate debut at the British Grand Prix not to participate at the Germany GP. Instead, one convened to further testing to develop the car.

Training
