1978–79 French Rugby Union Championship

The 1978/79 season was the 80th staging of the French rugby union championship. It included 40 teams in the top league ( of today's top 14).

The championship was divided into two phases. It began with the group phase in which ten teams in four groups played against each other. The seven winners of each group moved into the K - o.Runde, as are the four group winners in Division B. This was followed by sixteenth, eighth, quarter and semi-finals. In the final game, which took place in Paris on 27 May 1979 at the Parc des Princes, came together the two semi-final winners and played for the Bouclier de Brennus. Here, the RC Narbonne won against Stade Bagnérais and won for the second time the championship.
