Season overview

Two games before the end of the season of HSV and Bayern Munich were tied at the top. Both had a goal difference of 48, was the HSV in the first place only because of two more goals scored. The HSV lost in the penultimate round against newly Leverkusen 1:2, while Bayern won their last two games and for the sixth time German champions were. The HSV also lost the European Cup Final of Champions against Nottingham Forest 0-1. It was the last season of Kevin Keegan in Hamburg.
