1980–81 DDR-Oberliga

The 1980/81 season was the 33rd edition of the East German football championship. The Berliner FC Dynamo defended again on the last game, this time with a 2-1 win against FC Carl Zeiss Jena his title from last year and won the third championship.

Course of the season

The title fight was partially determined by four teams. After 1.Halbserie lay with the BFC Dynamo, 1 FC Magdeburg and Dresden Dynamo three teams with the same score at the top. Was followed this trio of FC Carl Zeiss Jena two points behind. During the winter break ( end of January) Dresden suffered an unexpected weakening of their team. Before the departure of the national team to Argentina players Gerd Weber were ( flight risk ), Peter Kotte and Matthias Müller ( privy ) detained and excluded from any game mode. Later, it was only just "The players were excluded because of political and moral failings of the SG Dynamo". This gap was not even with the nearly inexhaustible reservoir to connect to highly talented young players. At the end of Dresden took place behind the tied Magdeburg Magdeburg 4 which although on 17.Match again took the championship lead in the second half was not constant enough to seriously play for the title with. In the end they finished in third place, also thanks to the Dresdner home defeat Riesa on the final day. To the title played to finish off the dynamo from Berlin and the international big aufspielenden Jena. The Schedules saw it before, that both on the last day in Berlin clashed. This time would the BFC unlike last year are enough to draw a successful title defense. The Berlin won 2-1 and earned the Master managed a hat-trick, which previously only the dynamo namesake from Dresden succeeded 1975-1978. Jena 17 days after their final defeat in the European Cup Winners' Cup ( 1-2 against Dinamo Tbilisi ) lost their second final, had to settle for second in the table. For Berlin was at the end of the best home record to counterparties decisive for winning the title, although again lost a home game after more than 3 years and 43 games unbeaten against national opponents. This achieved the best return round team FC Vorwärts Frankfurt / O., the einkam end up in 5th place and a wide midfield led. Last of this field that had nothing to do with the descent, was the newcomer FC Hansa Rostock. The remaining four teams including the two veteran BSG Sachsenring Zwickau and BSG bismuth Aue fought literally to the last second with the BSG Stahl Riesa and the newcomer BSG Chemie Bohlen to avoid relegation. On the last matchday Zwickau, Bohlen and Aue could save on their own, with Riesa was dependent on protecting help. Zwickau which stood at 23 matchdays a relegation place and it was eleven times the taillight, won after 34 winless games in a foreign land 3:1 when backed freshman from Rostock. For Zwickau that meant the league, because you had the better goal difference over their rivals. Aue won their game against Magdeburg 2-1, was now to help protect the HFC Chemistry ( played in Bohlen ) dependent, as you face the Böhlener had a worse goal difference. Bohlen was a good start to the season ( 9-5 pts), could not maintain this level and slid more and more downward. After ten games without a win they also lost the final 0-1 and had to go back after only one year in the DDR -Liga. It was accompanied by the elf from Riesa, whose victory in Dresden had only statistical value.
