1997–98 French Rugby Union Championship

The 1997/98 season was the 99th staging of the French rugby union championship. It included 20 teams in the top league ( of today's top 14).

The championship was divided into two phases. In the qualifying round played ten teams in two groups against each other. The top four made ​​it to the quarterfinals for the other teams, the season was over. Because of the increase in the league in the following season, there were no losers. The quarter-finals were played in a first leg and a second leg. The winners of the semifinal met each other in the final, which was held at the Stade de France for the first time, and played for the Bouclier de Brennus. Here, the newly promoted Stade Français won against the USA Perpignan and won for the first time since 1908 the league title again ( for the ninth time in total).
