In the 2001 DTM season 10 races were held in three countries. The prelude and finale will take place at the Hockenheimring.

Rules
The race weekend
Was a place of a ten -minute function tests, estimated for the fans more attractive, 15 -minute roll-out and two 90 -minute test sessions.
On Saturday morning, first is to free practice of one hour, the last fine tuning of the car. In the early afternoon then available to qualifying; each driver are twelve rounds available which he can freely pass in 45 minutes. The rider with the best time is on Sunday in the qualification race on pole position.
For the first time since 1988 there is no longer the two races over 100 km. Instead, a short sprint is run over about 35 km, the qualification run to determine the starting order for the main race over about 100 km. Between the two runs, the drivers and teams have 25 minutes time to refuel the car, change tires or make repairs. In the championship round, the drivers are obliged to perform a pit stop in which all four tires must be replaced, but is not refueled.
The start of the race takes place smoothly.
Scoring
The distribution of points in the qualification race only the first three pilots are considered according to the scheme 3-2-1 with points. In the championship round, the points are awarded according to the scheme 20-15-12-10-8-6-4-3-2-1 for the first ten drivers. There is no striking results.
