Background

After the Grand Prix of Germany Michael Schumacher was leading the drivers' standings with 37 points ahead of David Coulthard and 43 points ahead of Ralf Schumacher. Ferrari resulted in the constructors' championship with 58 points ahead of McLaren -Mercedes with 68 points ahead of Williams - BMW.
