2002–03 AFC Champions League

The first edition of the AFC Champions League was held on 9 March to 11 October 2003 and was the first season of the created with the fusion of the Asian Champions ' Cup and Asian Cup Winners' Cup tournament modeled after the UEFA Champions League. The winner was Al Ain Club in the United Arab Emirates.

Mode

In the season 2002/2003 the first edition of the Champions League was played in the following mode: After a three-stage qualifying 16 teams played in four of four tournaments ( which were held respectively in one place ) four group winner - two Western and two for East Asia. This then met in the semifinals in return match against each other:

All games in Bangkok, Thailand.

All games in Dalian, People's Republic of China.

All games in al - Ain, United Arab Emirates.

Group D

All games in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Semifinal

The semi-finals were held on 9 and 22 April.

Final

The two finals were held on 3 and 11 October in Al Ain (United Arab Emirates) and Bangkok ( Thailand) instead:
