Club Chronicle

S-Pulse takes in the J. League in two respects a special position: on the one hand by the fact that the club is not based like most competitors on a work crew of a large Japanese company ( for example, Toyota, Mitsubishi, Yamaha or Hitachi), but with the introduction of professional league was established specifically. On the other hand, this: that he has an international curiosity was succeeded in 2000: winning the Asian Cup Winners' Cup without ever having been cup winners.

As in 1989, plans for a japan -wide professional football league, several small and medium-sized enterprises founded the project S-Pulse with the aim to build an advertising platform for the prefecture in professional football and to promote the sport in the region. Therefore, also the name of the club, which was officially registered on May 1, 1991 said: he should the dynamics (engl: pulse ) symbolize in Shizuoka. First, the project was led by the ES -lap Communications Group, from 1998, the Suzuyo Group took the lead. Was most recently seen in Shimizu (which is incorporated in the city of Shizuoka since 2003, yet the club retains the time being the old name ) win the Japan Airlines as the main sponsor and patron.

Supported by the college teams Shizuokas, which are among the strongest in the country, S-Pulse from the beginning was a heavyweight in league and cup, but consisted soon the reputation of the "eternal second " to 1999 they finished three half series on second place ( in the J. League will qualify only the first for the championship finals) and was twice unsuccessfully in the cup final. When the final opponent of 1998, the Yokohama wing, its gaming operations ceased after the victory because of financial problems, Shimizu moved into the Asian Cup for - and won this prompt: in the finale, the Iraqi team of Al Zawraa was beaten. This was the first triumph of S-Pulse, which, apart from the little respected Yamazaki Nabisco Cup 1996, never was able to win a title. Two years later, they moved again without a win in the Asia Cup after ( this time for the double winners Kashima Antlers ), but their success could not be repeated.

1999 S-Pulse finally succeeded to win the second round and to qualify for the championship final. This they lost just against local rivals Jubilo Iwata, and then also on penalties. From this failure, the association has not recovered to this day even though New Year's Day 2002 came to Shimizu with the final victory over Cerezo Osaka in the Emperor's Cup, the first serious national title runs S-Pulse since its shape afterwards and can no longer be given to the successful times end build -90s.
