2002 OFC Nations Cup

The football Ozeanienmeisterschaft 2002 (English: OFC Nations Cup ) was the sixth playout of the oceanic continental championship in football and was held from July 5 to 14, 2002 in New Zealand instead. The games were in the North Harbour Stadium in Albany and discharged in Ericsson Stadium in Auckland. At the tournament took with Australia, the Cook Islands, New Zealand, Tahiti, the Solomon Islands, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and Papua New Guinea for the second time after 1980, eight teams participate. The six weaker teams of Oceania had advance to contest a qualifying round in March 2002 in Toleafoa JS Blatter Soccer Stadium in Apia took place in Samoa. It was played in two groups of three teams. The two group best qualified for the semifinals.

New Zealand was the third time the Oceania and qualified for the FIFA Confederations Cup 2003 in France.

Qualification

The qualifying round was held in March 2002 at the Toleafoa JS Blatter Soccer Stadium held in Apia in Samoa. Before the tournament, the Cook Islands withdrew their participation, so that only five teams competed against each other.

Papua New Guinea and New Caledonia qualified as best finisher in the qualifying tournament for the Oceania Championship 2002.
