2005–06 Top 14 season

The 2005/06 season was the 107th staging of the French rugby union championship. It included 14 teams in the top league top 14 and 16 teams in the second highest league Pro D2.

Top 14

The regular season of the top 14 had 26 game days (one forward and reverse round). It began on 19 August 2005 and lasted until 27 May 2006. The four best-placed teams qualified for the semifinals. In the final game, which took place on 10 June 2006 at the Stade de France, the semi-final winners play for the championship trophy Bouclier de Brennus. This defending Biarritz Olympique vs Stade Toulousain won and won for the fifth time the championship. The teams at the last two places, Section Paloise and RC Toulon, had to descend into the Pro D2.

In terms of viewership this season broke all previous records: 79 502 spectators followed on 15 October 2005, the match between Stade Français Stade Toulousain and Stade de France, around 20,000 more than the most popular game of the Ligue 1 in football. This record was broken on March 4, 2006: At the match Stade Français vs Biarritz Olympique 79 604 spectators were present.

The regular season game lasted 30 days (one forward and reverse round). The bestklassierte team U.S. Montauban, went straight on to the first division. To the second promotion place denied the teams ranked 2-5 a playoff consisting of semi-finals and finals. Finally, the SC Albi prevailed. Three teams had to dismount in the amateur league Fédérale 1: the Pays d' Aix RC Stade Aurillacois and Tyrosse RCS.
