2005 NFL season

The NFL 2005 season was the 86th season of American Football in the National Football League ( NFL). The regular season began on September 8, 2005 and ended on 1 January 2006.

This season, the first regular -season game outside the United States took place. The San Francisco 49ers and the Arizona Cardinals played on October 2, 2005 at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. The Arizona Cardinals won with 31:14.

The New Orleans Saints were forced to play because of the damage from Hurricane Katrina, outside of New Orleans, Louisiana.

The season ended with the Pro Bowl on February 12 at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Play-offs

The play-offs began on January 7 and ran until 22 January 2006. The New England Patriots eliminated in the Divisional play-offs and the Pittsburgh Steelers won their fifth Super Bowl.

Super Bowl XL

The 40th Super Bowl was played on February 5, 2006 at Ford Field Stadium in Detroit, Michigan instead. In the final, the Seattle Seahawks met the Pittsburgh Steelers.
