2007 UCI ProTour

The UCI ProTour was organized by the Cycling Union UCI in the years 2005-2010 series of key staging and one-day races of road cycling. The ProTour took place in 2007 for the third time.

To the conflict between the UCI and the organizers of the three major national tours ASO (including Tour de France), RCS Sport (including Giro d' Italia ) and Unipublic ( Vuelta a España):

Course

As the first rider Alberto Contador won the white jersey of the overall leader after his victory in Paris-Nice. Only after the fifth ProTour event, he was replaced by his compatriot Oscar Freire, who only a few days kept the jersey until the Australians Stuart O'Grady by his victory at Paris- Roubaix took the lead. But even he could defend the lead only briefly and the Italian Davide Rebellin conquered the white jersey with a second place at the Amstel Gold Race and extended its lead three days later by winning the Flèche Wallonne from. However, decreased Danilo Di Luca, ProTour overall winner of 2005, in the next race the gap on fellow rebel and with the victory in the Giro d' Italia in early June he moved up to first place. Di Luca defended the white jersey then without any major problems and was even after the discharged on October 14, Paris- Tours, the penultimate event of the ProTour season, still leading ahead of Australian Cadel Evans, who with second places at the three-week tours was able to score the Tour de France and Vuelta a España. On October 18, Di Luca after he was stripped of the course was covered with a three-month doping ban all points in the ProTour standings, which Cadel Evans was advancing on the first place. At the last race of the season, the Tour of Lombardy, Evans finished sixth and was thus able to win the UCI ProTour 2007. Davide Rebellin from the German team Gerolsteiner came in fifth and reached behind Evans in second place in the ProTour standings. Best German was like last year Stefan Schumacher, who won the Amstel Gold Race in April, with the 24th overall, followed by his countrymen Jens Voigt and Erik Zabel on the squares 25 and 26

As in the two previous years, the Team CSC won the team and was able to celebrate this success after only 26 of 27 ProTour events. The German teams T-Mobile Team and Gerolsteiner were, however, compared to the previous season and reached all the places 13 and 14 in the national rankings, the Spaniard defended the title once again against the Italians. He was followed by Australia, which could be improved by one place. Germany, however, slipped to sixth place.

  • The teams Astana and Unibet.com had no automatic start authorization for the following race and had hoped to invitations from organizers: Paris -Nice, Tirreno- Adriatico, Milan - Sanremo, Paris -Roubaix, Walloon Arrow, Liege -Bastogne- Liege, Giro d ' Italia, Tour de France, Vuelta a España, Paris -Tours and Tour of Lombardy.
  • The Spanish- Basque team Euskaltel -Euskadi employed exclusively Basque Spanish and French as well as Latin Americans of Basque origin.
  • Although the team Saunier Duval- Prodir had a Spanish license, but had its de facto headquarters in Switzerland.
  • The Team Milram was named after its sponsor, a German dairy cooperative, named. As it emerged from the Italian team Domina Vacanze it had an Italian license and was operated by an Italian operating company based in Bergamo.
  • The team Caisse d' Epargne was named after its sponsor, a French bank, named. However, the team sailed under a Spanish license.
  • The Astana team was named after its sponsor, a consortium of Kazakh companies named. However, the team rode under a Swiss license.
