2008–09 Belgian First Division
The season 2008/09 Jupiler Pro League began on 16 August 2008 and ended on 16 May 2009. Due to the equality of points from RSC Anderlecht and Standard Liege two playoffs were played for the championship. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg Axel Witsel scored the decisive 1-0 win matches for Liege and shot them so that the champion.

Changes
The First Division has from this season - a result of the main sponsor - the official name: Jupiler Pro League.
It was the last season with 18 clubs. On 17 May 2008, the Belgian Football Association ( CBFA ) decided that the number of associations is reduced in the next season from 18 to 16. This means that this season stay at least two or at most four teams in the second division.
