2008 NFL season

The NFL 2008 season is the 89th season of American Football in the National Football League ( NFL). The regular season began on September 4 and ended on 28 December 2008. Since this season, the NFL presented with their new logo.

Rule Changes

Prior to this season following rule changes were announced:

  • In addition to quarterback, a defender may now wear a headset to talk with the coaching staff.
  • The "force out" rule was changed. As of now, the players in catching the ball must land with both feet in the field. If the player is pushed out of the field in the air, the catch is also correct.
  • The 5- yard penalty, in case of accidental pulling of facial protection is abolished. Intentionally pulling now means a 15 -yard penalty.
  • The team that wins the coin toss at the start of the game may impose from now on the opposing team 's decision.
  • If the ball for a field goal, the rod, the coach can now apply for a video evidence.

Regular Season

The season opening game, the " kickoff " was held on September 4. In this case, defending New York Giants beat the division rival Washington Redskins with 16:7. On the first day of the season, the quarterback Tom Brady suffered a knee injury and was out for the rest of the season, his New England Patriots missed with 11:5 just the final round.

A negative record featured the Detroit Lions. With its 0:16 footprint they remained winless as first team since the regular season was extended in 1978 to 16 games.

  • San Diego against Denver in the AFC West division due to better balance (5:1 to 3:3 Denver ).
  • Baltimore got AFC playoff position 6 due to better balance Conference ( 8:4 to 7:5 New England ).

Play-offs

The team with the lower set number has home advantage and is popularly called as the first, contrary to the practice in the U.S., where the home team is listed first.

Super Bowl XLIII

Super Bowl XLIII was the 43rd edition of the Super Bowl and took place on 1 February 2009 at Raymond James Stadium held in Tampa, Florida. It hit the AFC Champion Pittsburgh Steelers to the NFC Champion Arizona Cardinals. The favored Steelers could decide the duel with 27:23 just for themselves and thus keep the record for most Super Bowl titles.
