2009 Men's World Team Squash Championships
The 22nd World Team Championship for Men (English 2009 Men's World Team Squash Championships ) was held from September 27 to October 3, 2009 in Odense, Denmark. A total of 28 teams competed.
The Egyptian team was able to win the title for the first time after 1999. Until the final Karim Darwish, Amr Shabana, Ramy Ashour Wael El Hindi and lost not a single game. In the group stage they defeated Kuwait, Hong Kong and Serbia, in the final round, Germany, Canada and Australia. Only in the final against France was lost the first game, as Karim Darwish defeated with 11:8, 5:11, 8:11 and 2:11 Grégory Gaultier. Ramy Ashour succeeded by a ungefährdetes 11:3, 11:4 and 11:5 against Renan Lavigne the interim balance before Amr Shabana made clear to win the title for Egypt. In the decisive game, he defeated Thierry Lincou 11:6, 7:11, 12:10 and 12:10. The French team sat in the group stage against Ireland and Denmark game without loss, as in the final round against the Netherlands and South Africa. In the semifinals, France has also set somewhat surprising by defending champions England. Adrian Grant brought against England although Renan Lavigne in the lead, but James Willstrop and Peter Barker subject in each case against Gregory Gaultier and Thierry Lincou with 1:3. Third was the Australian team to David Palmer, Stewart Boswell, Cameron Pilley and Aaron Frankcomb that could defeat the third-place match England 2-1.
The German team to Simon Roesner, Jens Schoor, Stefan Leifels and Raphael Kandra finally finished eleventh. Austria to Aqeel Rehman, Jacob Dirnberger, Stefan Brauneis and Christian Coufal. A Swiss team came not at this World Cup.
Mode
The participating teams were in accordance with their translation in eight groups drawn against each other, the group size varied between three and four teams. Within the groups robin mode was played in the round, the top two teams reached the finals, which were held in the knockout system. In the tournament all the seats were played.
All teams consisted of at least three and at most five players that had to be reported in the order of their skill level. Three individual lots were denied per encounter. A team had won when their players were able to win two individual lots. The order of play of each lot was independent of the signaling sequence of the players.
