Ramy Ashour

Ramy Mohamed Ashour (Arabic رامي عاشور; born September 30, 1987 in Cairo ) is an Egyptian squash players. He led several occasions the world rankings and won in 2008 and 2012 the world championship in singles.

Career

In 2004, at age 16 Ashour made ​​his debut on the professional tour in Athens, where he also won directly to the surprise of all the tournament. After two years he was placed among the top ten in the world rankings and had already decided twice the junior world championship. He was the first player ever to succeed a successful title defense at junior level. Ashour won in Manchester in 2008 with a 3-1 win against Karim Darwish, the World Championship for Men. Winning this title in both the junior and in the men's area previously succeeded only Jansher Khan. 2009 was followed by another world title with the Egyptian national team, before Ashour in January 2010 could reach his biggest goal to date: The top position in the world rankings. From January to December 2010 Ashour has held the lead, only interrupted by a short period in the summer months of June, July and August. The 2012 season was nearly perfect for Ashour: With only seven tournaments he entered in all the finals and won five of the seven finals. Only in the North American Open and the British Open he lost to James Willstrop and Nick Matthew. Among the titles won in 2012 include, inter alia, the World Cup, the Ramy Ashour after 2008 could again win the first time. He thus lost only two games in the season.
