Background
After the Grand Prix of Korea Sebastian Vettel led the drivers' championship with 127 points, ahead of Jenson Button with 137 points, ahead of Fernando Alonso. Red Bull -Renault resulted in the constructors' championship with 140 points ahead of McLaren -Mercedes with 248 points ahead of Ferrari. Vettel and Red Bull -Renault were prematurely laid as a world champion.
At the Grand Prix of India has Pirelli riders the Hard tire compounds (silver) and soft (yellow), as well as for wet conditions Intermediates (light blue ) and Full - Wets (orange ) are available. On the first day of training, the pilots were given an extra set of tires soft mixture.
Vitantonio Liuzzi was replaced before the Grand Prix at HRT of Narain Karthikeyan. Karthikeyan received the vehicle with the number 22, which he already went to the season opener. Daniel Ricciardo took over the vehicle with the number 23 of Liuzzi.

Training

Qualifying
In the first part of qualifying Vitaly Petrov scored the fastest lap. Timo Glock succeeded due to transmission problems not to set a time within the 107- percent rule and failed therefore to the qualification. He was subsequently admitted to the race. In addition, HRT and Lotus pilots and D' Ambrosio and Kamui Kobayashi did not make the leap into the second segment. In this Vettel was the fastest driver. The Williams and Renault driver Sergio Pérez and Paul di Resta and Michael Schumacher retired from. In the last section Vettel held the lead and scored the pole position ahead of Hamilton and Webber. The qualifying session was ended under yellow, as Massa on output curve 9 was driving with a damaged suspension into the barriers.
Race
Vettel won the race ahead of Button and Alonso.
Vettel led the race from pole position at starting consistently and also set the fastest race lap. He scored a Grand Slam.
