2013 Men's European Volleyball Championship

The Volleyball European Championship Men 2013 was held from September 20 to 29 in Denmark and Poland. New European Champion Russia was a 3-1 final victory over Italy. The bronze medal won by defending champion Serbia a 3-0 win over Bulgaria. Germany was eliminated in the quarterfinals and ended up in sixth place.

Mode

The tournament began with a preliminary round in four groups (A -D ), each with four teams. For a 3:0 - or 3:1 - victory, there were three points for a 3-2 win, two points for a 2:3 defeat a point and a 1:3 - or 0:3 defeat no point. In case of equal first decided the number of games won and then the quotient set. Inventory also equality, the ball point quotient ( BPQ ), and finally the direct comparison of the teams decided. The top three teams in each group reached the second round. There initially met on Third group runners-up before the respective winners met a group first. The four successful teams in the second round of the semi-finals. The losers of the semifinals played for the third place, the winner determined in the final of the European Champions.

Venues

The European Championship was held in six sports centers, four of which were in Denmark. The semi-finals and finals were held in the capital Copenhagen Parking at the stadium. The Danish team played in the Arena Fyn in Odense. In the NRGi Arena in Aarhus the playoff games and the quarter-finals were held. The fourth Danish venue was the Jyske Bank Boxen in Herning. The venues in Poland were the Hala Sportowo in Gdynia and the Ergo Arena in Gdansk - Sopot, in the played the Polish team and playoff games, as well as the quarter-finals were played.

Qualification

In addition to the two co-hosts Denmark and Poland the best teams in the European Championship 2011 were directly qualified for the final round in 2013. These were Serbia, Italy, Russia, Slovakia and Bulgaria.

The remaining participants were determined in three qualifying rounds. In the first round came in May 2012, ten teams in home and away matches against each other. The winners reached the second round, which took place in September 2012. There, the 24 participants were divided into six groups. In each group, two tournaments were held, in which the teams competed against each other. The six group winners were qualified for the European Championship 2013. The runners- determined in the third round the last European Football Cup.
